Not only does Kelso offers fantastic shopping but it also is home to the famous The Art House Gallery which is fast gaining a reputation as one of Scotland’s leading, Contemporary Art Galleries.
Established in 2004 by two art collectors Yvonne and Tony, the Art House has not only doubled the size of their premises, but also the fantastic range of their art collection. The Gallery building dates back to 1608 and has been recently refurbished to offer the best visitor experience possible. Now covering two floors they offer a warm welcome to all visitors. A laid back relaxed atmosphere exists to make your visit a friendly one. With five distinct gallery rooms (all with seating) offering a wide range of fantastic artworks, there is something for everyone. To enhance the visit further they have a computer generated light system which can be set for the mood of the current exhibition on show.
Yvonne and Tony have cultivated links and friendships with some of the finest artists and art publishers in the world today. These fantastic relationships, allow them to sell artworks from some of the finest local, national and international acclaimed artists around today in the modern contemporary arts scene. Last year, great excitement was created when the Gallery exhibited an extensive collection of original paintings by the famous Rolf Harris, who personally came to Kelso to open the exhibition.

school friends, ItzyBitzy has become one of the Scottish Borders favourite
shops for semi-precious jewellery, pearls, leather belts, pashminas and
cashmere. With careful sourcing, ItzyBitzy offers a fantastic selection of
gifts, clothing and accessories which you will not see on the high street.
Shopping at ItzyBitzy couldn’t be easier : from Ednam House Hotel, simply cross

We love their Striped Belts; These
funky leather belts are totally unique and stand out from the crowds with their
metalic background and complimentary mulicoloured stripes- 4 half centimeter
bands of colour with white stitching make this a truly individual accessory.

Our very first blog
;
Welcome to our very first blog article and video. Through the blog, we will keep you updated on our latest news, life at the hotel, local and regional events as well as a "how to" section.
Through our "how to" section, we will share our "know how" with you. From bread making, to curing your own bacon at home to flower arranging. All these important details that make Ednam House special .
We are currently working on all the content for these articles and videos; the first hurdle has been to learn how to create a video, from the initial idea to the finish product. Armed with our new video camera, we have been filming in and around Kelso, including some of the fantastic local independent shops that we will feature later on.
Once the filming was done, it was back to the computer to learn to edit the long footage into minute long videos. After a few days of staring intensely at the computer screen, our first montage was ready to publish. This clip will come soon; it is all about Kelso. So watch this space.
Meantime, we hope you enjoy this first installment giving you a quick overview of Ednam House. Please feel free to contact us and email your suggestions and feedback. It is always much appreciated.
A Scottish Christmas
‘Tis the season… were we are all
hunting for the perfect Christmas gifts and as each year passes, it doesn’t get
any easier to find that special something for that special someone. Why not
treat a loved one to one of our Whisky Tasting Weekend – The weekends take
place from January to April and have limited spaces, so hurry – book early. See
our special offers page for details.
But here is another idea for a
unique gift:visit
www.Scotlandshop.com.
Based in Duns, about 20mn from
Kelso, Scotlandshop.com truly is the Mecca for anything Scottish or Tartan.
Their website is really easy to navigate and the personal service is excellent.
The range includes gifts for
women, men, children, home accessories and more; their collection is inspired
and influenced by the multitude of colour to be found in the Scottish Tartans,
steeped in history yet a still a fundamental part of the fashion industry,
combined withthe talents of the many
fabulous designers and manufacturers.
This season we love this lovely
lightweight wool stole. Ideal to keep you warm yet not bulky, nice and long and
knots or wraps easily making it versatile enough to keep your shoulders warm in
a dress, or worn as a scarf with your winter coat.
To really get into the spirit of
a “Tartan Christmas”, we love those beautiful handmade tartan hearts perfect
for hanging on the Christmas tree and decorating the house. The Tartan hearts
are available from stock in three tartans or can be custom made in the tartan
of your choice.
Fantastic Country Clothing
This month, we feature one of our
favourite Kelso independent retailer : A Hume Country Clothing. Whether you
come at Ednam House for a country pursuit or simply to discover the Scottish
Borders and relax, you will need some good country clothing to keep you dry and
warm against the sometime unpredictable weather. So why not do it in style!
A Hume, Gentlemen’s Outfitter,
opened their doors for business in 1929 and have remained owned and run by the
family ever since, operating from exactly the same premises. Archie is the
third generation to run the business, with his wife Karen.
Their business is unique in that
they still carry out Made to Measure fittings and do all their own alterations
in the shop – However, don’t be fooled by what would seem a small traditional
outfitter.
Whilst the shop has a traditional
feel with its high ceilings, wooden cabinets and large standing mirrors, the
business has expanded through the year and today A Hume clothing is recognised
as one of the best online retailers, offering collections from some of the best
designers and manufacturers; from Musto, to Gant, Dubarry to RM Williams, but
to name a few.
Like Ednam House, A Hume clothing
are passionate about personal customer service and as such extend a very
friendly welcome to all. So when you are in Kelso next, make a point to visit
the shop. However if you are not due to visit our lovely town for a while, do
have a look at their website : www.ahume.co.uk
